Helen Stickney, PhD

In 2014, I left a career in academia to pursue a calling to help those at the end of life.  I work in administration for a local hospice and I am a hospice volunteer in my spare time. I became a certified End of Life Doula with Doulagivers in 2017, I have a certificate in Compassionate Presence from Spiritual Care Programme, and I am also trained as a meditation instructor and Reiki practitioner. In 2018 I began offering guided contemplations of one’s own death for individuals and groups.

As a doula, my role is to support people through the various phases of the end of life process. Death affects our loved ones as well as those who are dying. I am available to support everyone involved in the dying process.  For the past few years, I have been acting as a facilitator for people exploring and processing their experiences with grief.  Meditation and deep listening are integrated into all aspects of my work.

I have been a meditator for over 35 years, focusing most recently on Buddhist approaches to meditation.  In my work, I offer body-based instruction in body-based practices to help individuals work directly with emotions and well-being, embracing our human experience as a way to heal and grow.

In addition to my work with Pittsburgh Community Deathcare, I am former director of the Three Rivers Free Clinic for the People and have held leadership roles at the Pittsburgh Shambhala Meditation Center.  I currently teach meditation at various locations around the city and upon request.

I’m located in Allegheny county and am happy to drive within 30 miles of the 15209 zip code. If you are located further, please check with me for availability.
